Why you need to know about manual handling

Aims and Outcomes

The aim of this course is to raise awareness of the risks that manual handling presents so that you understand more about your responsibilities and how to carry out your job role safely.

Incorrect manual handling is one of the most common causes of injury at work

In a recent study by the HSE, it was estimated that 6.6 million working  days were lost due to work-related musculoskeletal disorders. Manual handling was  estimated to be one of the main reasons for these injuries.

Recognising the risk that manual handling presents, and taking appropriate action, will help you to avoid injuries to you and others

Aims

The aim of this course is to raise awareness of the risks that manual handling presents so that you understand more about your responsibilities and how to carry out your job role safely.

Important

Awareness training, such as this  course, helps to identify and reduce risks But it is likely that additional context-specific information, instruction, training and/ or  supervision may be necessary given the unique nature of your organisation, your role within it, the  task you perform and the environment in which you operate.

For example, if you  use mechanical  lifting  devices, you will need to know  the correct way to operate  them, in  accordance  with the manufactures instructions.
